Light rail tunnel roof in place21 February 2017
A new roof is now in place over the cut-and-cover section of the tunnel which will travel under the Moore Park West playing fields. Following completion of the tunnel walls at the beginning of the year, the tunnel roof was installed in three sections during January and February.
With the roof completed, work will begin to cover the tunnel with earth, before work starts to connect the new tunnel to the new light rail bridge over the Eastern Distributor. Minor changes will be made to the shared pedestrian and cycling path in this area but access will be maintained at all times.
Preparations are now underway for the reinstatement of Anzac Parade to its original alignment. Traffic will return to Anzac Parade in April, enabling start of construction of the new light rail stop close to the sports stadiums.
The Anzac Parade busway returned for both morning and afternoon peak hour services from 22 February. A significant amount of work went into preparing 400m of track foundations on Alison Road over three months so the busway could be reinstated, minimising disruption to peak hour commuters.
Investigative works are ongoing around the intersection of Anzac Parade with Alison Road, including Tay Street, Robertson Road and Martin Road.
From March, work will start at the intersection of Darley Road and Alison Road on selected weekends. Work in this location will take place over 56-hour weekend shutdowns from 8pm Friday to 5am Monday, to minimise disruption to busy weekday traffic. Work will not take place when events are on at the Randwick Racecourse. Notification will be provided before work starts.
