Surry Hills construction update

31 October 2016

Construction will soon be underway to underground low voltage power lines on Devonshire Street, with work to investigate and relocate utilities along the street, at key intersections and within the established construction zone.

Weekend work will take place at the intersection of Elizabeth and Devonshire streets over the next few months.

Utility investigations and relocations will take place on Riley Street,  and in a small area of Ward Park during standard day time hours from mid-October and will continue for several weeks. Night time utility work will also take place on selected nights around the intersection of Riley Street and Devonshire Street over the coming weeks until 18 November.

Locations under investigation, including the small area of Ward Park, will be fenced off for safety reasons. Ward Park utility investigation work will likely be complete in late 2016.

The delivery of fill to the Olivia Gardens site is progressing, and the ground level has already been raised significantly. This work will help to provide an improved open space for the community following light rail construction.

On 24 September 2016, ALTRAC Light Rail hosted a booth at the Surry Hills Festival and had a busy day sharing information about light rail with the local community. The team discussed the latest light rail design drawings, pocket parks and Devonshire Street improvements, and answered questions about construction.

For more information about light rail construction, you can meet our street teams at the mobile information hub which travels across the CBD and South East. You can find the latest dates and locations on our Business and community page.
