CBD intersection work ramps up

31 October 2016

The final blocks of George Street closed this month between Liverpool and Goulburn streets, Goulburn and Hay streets, and Hay Street to Rawson Place. This means all of George Street from Circular Quay to Central is now under construction.

Weekend intersection work in the CBD is also increasing and traffic arrangements will change significantly each weekend.

Drivers are encouraged to check the Live Traffic website every Friday after 4pm for up-to-date information about weekend traffic changes. Those planning to drive into the city on weekends should allow extra travel time, follow detour signs and watch out for changed speed restrictions through construction zones.

Utility and services work is ongoing in George Street, with potholing investigations taking place between Alfred and Grosvenor streets, Ausgrid pit work between Hunter and King streets, and stormwater investigation work between King and Market streets.

Preparatory work is also taking place at the intersection of George and Hay streets in readiness for extensive further work in the coming months where the Inner West Light Rail and CBD and South East Light Rail tracks will intersect. This work will, at times, impact Inner West Light Rail services. For the latest information about existing light rail services and to plan your trip, please visit the Transport Info website.
