Get set for the next George street closure

23 November 2015

CBD Coordinator General Marg Prendergast is urging CBD commuters to prepare for the next George Street closure, as construction ramps up on Sydney Light Rail.

The second block closure, between Market and Park streets, will take place late on Wednesday 2 December with construction to start the following day.

“This next closure means George Street will be closed to traffic between King and Park streets, which will be another big test for our new traffic arrangements,” Ms Prendergast said.

“Again, we urge everyone to re-time and re-route their journeys to, from and through the CBD, and use public transport where possible.

“Those who need to drive should use the preferred routes on the city’s edges. Our interactive maps will help you to plan the best route.

“There will be heavy traffic in Market and Park Streets and the surrounding roads, so drivers should use College Street when heading north or south, as well as the outer city routes including Goulburn Street, Macquarie Street, the Cahill Expressway and the Western Distributor.”

All cross-roads across George Street will remain open. Any intersection work required will be restricted to nights or weekends with prior notification.

Authorised access will be available to emergency vehicles and drivers exiting the Hilton Hotel.
