Randwick Stabling Yard milestone

30 November 2017

A significant milestone was reached on one of the project’s busiest construction sites, with track installation completed in the Randwick Stabling Yard during November.

Nearly 4km of track is now in place in the yard, over and above the 12.5km of track that has been installed across the alignment.

With track in place, poles are going up and finishing work around the track is underway, and the second light rail vehicle arrived at the Stabling Yard in late October following its long journey from France.

Landscaping in the Yard also got underway in November, with the first trees being planted near the acoustic wall.

With track in place, wires up and the new vehicles ready and waiting, the next steps into the new year will be energisation of substations and overhead wiring and the testing of light rail vehicles.

Also in November, a group of children from Westmead Children’s Hospital spent a lovely sunny morning meeting with crew members during a visit to a High Street worksite.

The children were provided with their own safety gear and allowed on site to get a first-hand update from some of the team on what was happening at the site.

It was great to see the enthusiasm of the kids for the light rail project and to share in their excitement at being part of the construction experience while taking a well-deserved break from the hospital.

We’d like to thank the Westmead Children’s Hospital for the opportunity to share our project with some of their patients.
