Surry Hills construction update31 October 2017
Civil construction is nearing substantial completion in Zone 15, Devonshire Street between Chalmers and Elizabeth Streets, with major works to be wrapped up before Christmas.
Work is now taking place to complete the roadway and footpaths in this zone, with footpath construction currently underway on the southern side of Devonshire Street. Barriers will be removed at the end of the year, freeing up space for pedestrians in this busy area.
Some finishing work will continue in the New Year, including installation of smart poles, street furniture and trees, as well as final paving work in the zone.
On Chalmers Street, between Eddy Avenue and Devonshire Street, night work will be carried out over the coming weeks near the Devonshire Street entrance to Central Station. Utility work is also being carried out on Randle Street.
In Zone 16, Devonshire Street between Elizabeth Street and Steel Street, utility work is continuing – including watermain and electrical work. Work is ongoing across the driveway of 166a Devonshire Street to excavate a trench for the watermain between Waterloo and Steel Streets. Access to the property will be maintained at all times.
Utility work has nearly finished at the intersection of Devonshire and Crown Streets. Some further overnight work is required as this work is finalised. During November, this work compound will move to the other side of the intersection.
