Randwick prepares for High Street closure3 January 2018
With track, poles and wires complete in Zone 24, Alison Road between Darley Road and Wansey Road, the finishing touches are now being put in place. Pavement and kerb adjustment work is being carried out on the northern side and the median of Alison Road. Landscaping and fencing work is ongoing and will continue to the end of January.
With track in place, wires up and our two new light rail vehicles now at the stabling yard, the next steps will be energisation of substations and overhead wiring and the testing of the vehicles in this area.
In Zone 25, Wansey Road between Alison Road and High Street, work is steadily progressing towards the installation of more track in the coming weeks. Most of the excavation in the zone is now complete and work is being carried out on the pavement next to the track slab. Road trenching is taking place to install traffic signal conduits. Over coming weeks there will be increasing track activity, including delivery of rail and concrete pours in this zone.
At High Cross Park, the substation is now being fitted out with electrical equipment, lighting and air conditioning. Soon construction of the geothermal cooling system will begin, requiring a temporary expansion of the site compound at High Cross Park. The park will be reinstated for public use at the completion of construction.
We are preparing for the temporary closure of High Street, between Wansey Road and Botany Street, during January and February. This section of High Street will be closed to traffic from 8pm, (10pm) Friday 12 January to (6am) 5am, Monday 26 February.
Traffic will be diverted to Arthur Street, and Wansey Road will be open to traffic in both directions. Some minor traffic delays may be experienced. Where required, traffic control will be in place to direct traffic, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians safely around the operations.
Access for emergency services and local residents will be maintained at all times. Hospital access will be maintained at all times via alternative routes.
