CBD north milestones31 July 2017
Construction in the CBD north has reached a significant milestone with the completion of track installation and the reopening of George Street to traffic between Grosvenor Street and The Rocks. More than 1600 metres of track has so far been laid in the CBD.
Returning traffic to this section of George Street ensures that access to The Rocks is maintained at all times during construction. Smaller compounds remain while paving work is finalised in this area.
The CBD north track installation has allowed for an expansion of work in Circular Quay, which is the final zone occupation in the northern end of the CBD. The construction compound at Circular Quay was expanded in early July.
In early July, a closure of Liverpool Street allowed the completion of complex utility relocation work in collaboration with Sydney Water and Ausgrid. Further closures in August 2017 will involve the installation of track in this intersection.
As crews work through the CBD, track will be installed across more George Street intersections in the coming months. Full weekend closures of intersections will be required for utility work and track installation. These full closures are carried out over weekend shutdowns to minimise disruption to traffic and work will be coordinated to ensure that traffic can still move around the CBD.
