CBD Light Rail preparatory work to start early

12 April 2015

Work on the CBD and South East Light Rail project will begin three weeks early in October to ensure more space is created for shoppers and retailers during the busy Christmas shopping period.

Critical investigative works on George Street will now be brought forward from 23 October to 5 October.

This decision followed consultation with impacted businesses concerned that the isolated closures of existing bus lanes in George Street between Market and King streets could affect the peak shopping season near Myer and Westfield.

The $2.1 billion light rail will transform Sydney by offering fast, reliable journeys from Circular Quay through the CBD to south east Sydney’s sporting and entertainment precincts, medical facilities, education and business precincts.

CBD users – including public transport customers, cyclists, pedestrians and drivers – can now find the best way to navigate the city during construction.

Plan your trip and find the fastest and most efficient ways of moving in and around the city.
