Bridging the CBD to the South East

28 September 2016

The CBD and South East Light Rail project has made headway this week with the gap between the Surry Hills and Moore Park segments tied together by a new light rail bridge.

A huge 750 tonne crawler crane dropped the new light rail bridge structure into place over the Eastern Distributor, marking an important milestone for the $2.1 billion public transport project.

The Eastern Distributor Bridge connects the missing link of the route between the CBD and the South East and enables crews to continue tunnelling in Moore Park and expand construction in Surry Hills.

The installation of the Eastern Distributor Bridge will take five nights to complete and ongoing work including track laying, landscaping and roadwork is expected to be complete in early 2017.

The first CBD and South East Light Rail services will be operating in early 2019.
