Weekend construction at a number of CBD intersections from 6 May to 13 May 2016

Utility and investigation works will continue along George Street, between Essex and King streets, across weekends in May. These works involve investigating, identifying and preparing underground utility services and stormwater drainage.

Light rail construction and investigation works in the CBD (day and night time work) continues from 1 May to 31 July 2016

Work taking place in this period includes work within four existing construction zones, works at George Street intersections, and investigation works along the alignment.

Light rail construction at a number of CBD intersections on weekends, from 8 April to 9 May 2016

Utility and investigation works will continue along George Street, between Margaret Street and King Street, over some weekends during April and May 2016. These works involve investigating, identifying and preparing underground utility services.

Light rail construction work in George Street (between Bridge & Margaret streets) from 1 April 2016

From 10pm 1 April, George Street between Bridge and Margaret streets (Zone 3) will reduce to a single lane open to northbound general traffic only. No southbound movements will be permitted on this section.

Where possible, work will occur during standard daytime hours to minimise impacts. Night work will take place when required from:
  • 8pm on Sundays
  • 9pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • 10pm on Thursdays.
All night works will finish by 5am the following day. Impacted stakeholders will be notified separately prior to works commencing.

Light rail construction work in George Street (between Alfred & Grosvenor streets) from 11 March 2016

Light rail construction will start in George Street, between Alfred Street and Grosvenor Street (Zone 2). Where possible, work will occur during standard daytime hours to minimise impacts. Night work will take place when required.

Lilyfield staff and maintenance depot works will take place from 4 April 2016

From 4 April 2016, ALTRAC Light Rail will commence site establishment works for the construction of a new maintenance depot at Lilyfield to service the CBD and South East Light Rail and Inner West Light Rail. The depot will be used for maintenance, repairs, servicing of light rail vehicles and will have facilities for light rail drivers.

Light rail works will continue in Surry Hills from 1 May to 31 July 2016

ALTRAC Light Rail will continue works in the Surry Hills area in the lead up to major construction later in 2016.

Work will take place at the following locations:

• Chalmers Street (Eddy Avenue to Devonshire Street)
• Devonshire Street (Chalmers Street to Crown Street)
• Devonshire Street (Crown Street to Bourke Street)
• Olivia Gardens (between Nobbs Lane and Parkham Lane)
• Moore Park West (between Anzac Parade and the Eastern Distributor)

ALTRAC will commence backfilling of the Olivia Gardens site near Wimbo Park in Surry Hills in late April 2016.

Eastern Distributor Bridge works will take place in Surry Hills and Moore Park from 17 April 2016

ALTRAC Light Rail will continue work for the CBD and South East Light Rail Eastern Distributor Bridge which will cross South Dowling Street and travel over the Eastern Distributor to Moore Park West.

ALTRAC Light Rail will be carrying out surveys, geotechnical investigations, and potholing work in the Surry Hills/Moore Park area in preparation for main construction of the light rail project. Two site compounds, one at Moore Park East and one at Moore Park West will also be established.

This work may involve localised traffic and pedestrian changes including some lane closures.

Light rail construction will continue in Moore Park from 1 May to 31 July 2016

ALTRAC Light Rail will continue works in the Moore Park area from 1 May 2016. Work will take place at the following locations in Moore Park:

• Moore Park West, between the Eastern Distributor and Anzac Parade
• Anzac Parade, Moore Park, adjacent to Tramway Oval
• Moore Park East, south of Tramway Oval with access from Driver Avenue
• Anzac Parade up to the Alison Road intersection

Construction update - Wansey Road closed 6am to 6pm Sunday 1 May

Light rail construction will start on Wansey Road between Alison Road and High Street (zone 25) from 1 May 2016

Where possible, work will occur during standard day time hours, 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm Saturday. Night time works are necessary at times for safety and traffic reasons. When required, these will take place from 8pm to 5am. Impacted stakeholders will be notified in advance.

Light rail work will continue in Alison Road (Anzac Parade to Darley Road and Darley Road to Wansey Road, zones 23 and 24) 29 April-31 July
 

Where possible, work will occur during standard day time hours, 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm Saturday. Night time works are necessary at times for safety and traffic reasons. When required, these will take place from 8pm to 5am. Impacted stakeholders will be notified in advance.

Light Rail work in Zone 23 (Alison Road between Anzac Parade & Darley Road) and Zone 24 (Alison Road between Darley Road & Wansey Road) from mid-February 2016

The majority of works in these zones are expected to take place during the day, however some night works will be required. 

In addition, investigation works will continue along the light rail corridor from 31 January in preparation for future construction work.

Construction update - Anzac Parade night works between Todman Avenue and High Street 4-10 May 2016

Light rail works will take place on Anzac Parade between Todman Avenue and High Street from 7 May to July 30 2016

From the evening of 7 May 2016, the first stage of construction work is scheduled to start on Anzac Parade between Todman Avenue and High Street. This work will mostly take place in the centre of Anzac Parade.

In order to establish the construction work site within a narrow corridor of live traffic and allow safe future operation of the light rail, the bus and parking lanes along this section of Anzac Parade will be removed and clearways will be established.

Work to establish a light rail compound at Kingsford will take place from 14 December 2015

In accordance with planning approvals, a site compound and materials storage yard is being established within the car park site adjoining Nine Ways intersection, Anzac Parade and Rainbow Street in Kingsford. Early preparatory works will take place in December 2015 to remove hazardous materials from the site before the area is prepared for storage of construction materials. Maroubra Rotary Club's Sunday markets will be unaffected until January 2016.

This site compound will continue to operate as a construction materials storage site until the end of the project.
